TBO's Brit Shalom discussion group has been considering the State of Israel and our relation to it as contemporary diaspora Jews. To help us better understand the present, we have decided to look back at the past —at the hopes and dreams, debates and ideas of previous generations of diaspora Jews that led to the establishment of the State of Israel. What did they envision for a Jewish homeland? What ideas and political movements shaped the development of that homeland? And was there a diversity of visions for this Jewish homeland?
